Salt can be a problem for people with high blood pressure (or hypertension). My husband has borderline high-blood pressure and has been advised by his doctor to NOT use salt. As for me, since I was a little girl, my family never used salt - I'm not sure why, but they never used ANY spices at all (that's a whole other story). So, we both normally don't add any extra salt to our food at the kitchen table. We DO add some to certain foods when we are preparing them - like bread and chicken soup.

Do We Really Need Salt?
Our bodies need salt to survive. Our cells need it to function normally. Per day, we normally need around 1500mg (if we are not healthy- i.e. we have hypertension or diabetes) to 2300mg (if we are healthy).
Why is Himalayan salt different from regular salt?
The salt we normally find for sale at the grocery store is really SODIUM CHLORIDE - this is salt that has been refined (i.e. had the trace minerals stripped out of it) and heated to high temperatures (around 1200 degrees F). It is also bleached. Anti-caking agents are added which prevent salt from mixing with water - (note: we need salt to mix with the "water" in our bodies to benefit from it). This may be why processed salt can accumulate in our organs such as the heart, kidneys and muscles, and can increase water retention which contributes to high blood pressure.
Sea salt is a good source of salt that contains trace minerals and has not been bleached or heated or had anti-caking agents added to it. The Himalayan variety of sea salt is very pure - no contamination or pollutants are found in it as can be found in sea salt from our oceans nowadays. Himalayan sea salt also has a differant crystalline structure (it's balanced) and because of this the minerals are more readily absorbed than regular sea salt. It contains around 84 trace minerals. Regular sea salt may contain less - it depends on where it originates from.
Health Benefits from Himalayan Crystal Sea Salt
- Respiratory health, ciruculation, sinus health, vascular health, bone strength, blood pressure regulation to name a few.
- You can make a "sole" (pronounced "sole lay") of spring water and salt crystals - this liquid has been traditionally used to change our bodies energy pattern to a healthy one, neutralize the bodies ph, regulate blood pressure and detoxify the body including heavy metals. see Sole Therapy at Natural Health International and Sole Preparation at Amazing Health/UK for more information. (Note: we have not tried this out yet.)
